Music Marketing

Music marketing was a topic I never expected to learn nor be excited to do so. This project and the process of getting into it was both challenging and fulfilling. It allowed me and my group to express creativity and ideas while also learning how to corporate as a group, overcoming obstacles that came to us along the way.

The primary thing we really needed to get a grasp on was the message behind our song and the artist we want to conjure, focusing on creating an image that would really match the tempo. We've decided that our song is essentially one that is about the uncertainty of changes in one's life and how it can turn around so easily. Our artist's music video will represent that theme in the form of storytelling. This came about when we really decided to go in depth and digest the lyrics. We thought this idea was best for the song and representing the artist. It was quite difficult agreeing on one idea and how we would go about the video, but in the end we did agree on our final draft. Our music video planning was done in minutes to where we outlined the most important parts of what we want to make sure is 100% in the video while other parts were a brief idea. We created a storyboard, made it simple enough that it could be arranged but not drastically. We had an idea and made sure it was all put out there so we would not be having may questions.

As our base song is indie rock, we focused on researching recent indie rock artists and their production companies. Having little information about these things, it was difficult differentiating what is important and what is such fill in information. In the end we got what was needed and made sure we were equipped with the right information to proceed our own marketing campaign. The process of creating the whole campaign is a work in progress but I see it coming along as our ideas are quite elaborate and effective in our eyes. Naming our artist and creating their identity was difficult as we didn't just want a random name. We wanted it to mean something and be of theme. We went along with 'Satire', the perfect word for the image my group wanted to go with.

My favorite part was thinking about the ideas for social media and marketing our artist's brand through multiple platforms. Our generation knows an immense amount of the concept of using social media for promoting brands and people and the thought of becoming part of that is exciting. I believe that we are so exposed to this type of content to the point that we know ow to reach a certain target audience and I expect to use that to my advantage. Overall, this project is challenging but not to the point where it is difficult to attain what we need. We have an idea and we are trying our best to aim for the best to come out of the image we have made up in our minds.
